A Day in the Life on the Disney Treasure with 3 Generations

You’re the main mama in your family. Your parents are happy to go along with whatever you plan—as long as they can just follow along and jump in to help with the kids here and there. Your kids? They’re on board too… as long as there are fun moments and surprises built in.

It’s a lot of pressure on the main mama, isn’t it? Coordinating everything so everyone can relax and enjoy. Let me take you through a real day in our lives on the Disney Treasure, so you can see what it actually looks like traveling with a multi-generational family of 14.

Our crew included my family of five—my husband, myself, and our three kids (aka “the teen room”). My husband’s brother and his wife brought their five kids, ages 11, 6, 6 (twins), 4, and 6 months. And of course, we had the grandparents with us too.

Room-wise, we were close but spread out in a way that worked really well. The family of seven split into two connecting rooms, with two of the kids staying with the grandparents next door. Our room was just a few doors down the hall, which made it easy to pop back and forth without feeling crowded.

Traveling with multiple generations can feel daunting. There are so many personalities, schedules, and energy levels to think about. But this is where the magic of a Disney cruise really started to shine.

Mornings looked different for everyone—and that was the beauty of it. The grandparents and the family of seven were usually up early, with kids excited and ready for the day. Grandma and the oldest grandson would even sneak in a morning gym session before breakfast. After that, they’d head to Marceline Market for a buffet breakfast with endless options.

Meanwhile, the teen room? We were definitely slower to rise. Sometimes we made breakfast just in time, sometimes we missed it altogether. And you know what? It didn’t matter. There was no pressure to all be in the same place at the same time. That flexibility made everything feel easy instead of stressful.

Afternoons were all about a mix of together time and doing your own thing. Most days, you’d find everyone drifting in and out of the pool deck, watching movies, swimming, or just relaxing. Nothing was overly scheduled—it was very much a “come and go as you please” kind of rhythm.

At the same time, we took advantage of the ship’s built-in programming (which is included and so worth it). I’m not someone who can sit by the pool all day—I burn instead of tan, and I like to stay busy—so I loved mixing it up. One of our favorite activities was the learn-to-draw classes. Such a fun, low-pressure way to try something different, and we’d meet up for those when we could.

Evenings were when everyone naturally came back together. Rotational dining ended up being one of my favorite parts of the entire experience. Each night we’d go to a different restaurant, but our servers stayed with us, which made it feel personal and familiar.

This was our time to sit, laugh, share stories from the day, and just reconnect. Between the dinner shows, the amazing food, and of course dessert, it became a nightly highlight for all of us.

After dinner, we’d usually head to the Broadway-caliber shows. Picture all 14 of us taking up an entire row, popcorn in hand, soaking in the performances together. It was one of those moments where you look around and think, this is what it’s all about.

If you’ve ever tried planning a trip for multiple generations, this is exactly why cruises—especially Disney—just work. There’s an ease to it. Everyone gets to do what they enjoy, on their own time, without feeling like they’re missing out. And then you come back together for the moments that matter most.

Everyone is happy. Everyone has fun. And no one feels overwhelmed trying to keep up.

If you’re considering a trip with grandparents and kids, this truly might be the easiest way to make it happen. And if you want to take it to the next level… concierge is where things get really good 😉
